Wilma McLaughlin

Wilma Jean (Ebel) McLaughlin was born February 6, 1935 & passed away on February 8, 2025, after celebrating her 90th birthday with her family. Her last days were happy and she was surrounded by love.

Wilma was born, raised and lived in Listowel. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Wayne (Buck) McLaughlin (2019) with whom she shared 65 years of marriage; cherished son Bill (Wallie – Spaceman) McLaughlin (2010); brother Charlie Ebel; sister Barbara Ann Smillie; parents William and Barbara Ebel; parents-in-law Elson and Margaret McLaughlin.

Wilma will be sorely missed by her daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Harrison (Don) of Listowel, Peggy McLaughlin (Jara Kollar) of Coquitlam B.C., Shirley McLaughlin (Trevor Haddow) of Salt Spring Island B.C. She is also survived by siblings, Russell Ebel (Winnie) of Innisfil, David Ebel (Cheryl) of Lion’s Head, and Phyllis Moore (Bill) of London.

She was blessed with grandchildren: Andrew Harrison of Kitchener, Matthew Harrison (Jennifer) of Atwood, Ian Baker (Felicia) of Kamloops B.C. and Thomas Baker of Salt Spring Island B.C.

She was doubly blessed with great grandchildren: Knox, Berkeley and Ripken Harrison, all of Atwood; Alistair and Olivia Baker of Kamloops B.C.

You would know part of Wilma’s story by the photos and clippings she chose to put on the fridge, there to see every day. Her’s is filled with photos of family and friends, from the coffee gals to her beloved great grandchildren, all held fast by her collection of shoe and flower magnets acquired through the years.

Wilma graduated from Lougheed Business College and soon after was swept off her feet by Dad and four children soon followed. She was the rock of our family and the matriarch of our extended family, while also working at various businesses in Listowel over the years.

Wilma’s many friends and acquaintances will remember her warm and friendly smile: a constant in the Listowel community over a lifetime.
