With heavy hearts we announce the passing of James Alexander Askin, April 24 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Jim suffered a health issue at his home and passed away in hospital, three days after his 76th birthday.
Born in 1947, Jim spent his early years growing up with his family members on farms near Carthage, then Fordwich, where he started elementary school. The family moved to Listowel in 1958. After graduating from Listowel High School, Jim became a Registered Industrial Accountant and completed a Management Training Course at the University of Western Ontario. His career in finance and manufacturing began in Kitchener and Guelph. From there his career took him to Cleveland, the United Kingdom and Chicago where he finished his career with BP Oil. Jim retired to Scottsdale in 2006.
Siblings and family members have so many fond memories of Jim. He had a great sense of humour and loved to tell stories. He enjoyed family time and loved to go on road trips to see and experience all that he could with those he was travelling with. He loved to play golf and was always up for a game of cards. He was a great guy to have in your corner. Jim will be missed.
Jim leaves his sister Emma Askin, Knollcrest, Milverton. Brother Bob Askin and his wife Marion, Mississauga, their daughters Debbie, Guelph, Jill and husband Campbell, Cornwall. Sister Linda and her husband Kevin Sholdice of Listowel, daughter Kim, Tavistock, and sons Kevin his wife Michelle, Listowel and Kyle & Tasha, Guelph. Jim is survived by his partner, Linda Seubold, Scottsdale, her son Scott, his wife Tiffany their son, Russell, and daughters Victoria & Mary. Jim is also survived by his wife Judy Askin and their son Tim, Cleveland. Their son Andrew, Holland, his wife Amy and their three daughters Olivia, Serene and Elysiana. He was predeceased by parents Roy and Marie Askin, Listowel.
Jim was a survivor of the 1959 arena collapse. A day in his life he never forgot.
Plans are underway for a Service at St. Joseph’s Parish, 1025 Wallace Ave. N., Listowel, Saturday, June 3rd. Mass at 11:00 am. officiated by Rev. Ross Bartley, followed by a reception and Celebration of Life in the Church Hall.
Family members would appreciate donations to the Listowel, Memorial Arena Park 59 project in memory of Jim. Donations may be made through the Municipality of North Perth website, https://www.northperth.ca/en/our-community/memorial-arena-park-59.aspx or a fund raising committee member at the hall, the day of the Service.
