She began her career in Stratford upon graduation from the Stratford General Hospital School of Nursing, then moved to McNeal Memorial Hospital in Chicago for a brief time. Upon returning to Ontario, she continued at KW Hospital (Grand River) in Kitchener. Dorothy then joined the nursing team in Listowel and eventually took on the role of Nurse Administrator at the Listowel Memorial Hospital. Later, she took on the same role at the St. Marys Memorial Hospital, in St. Marys Ontario, until her retirement in 1988. In addition to receiving her registered nursing diploma for the Province of Ontario, Dorothy was awarded the silver cup for school spirit and student leadership from the Stratford School of Nursing. She furthered her studies with Conestoga College, Guelph, with excellence for Nursing Supervision. Dorothy then received her Nursing Administration degree from the University of Western Ontario, London. She enjoyed every day of her profession and always advocated “nursing” to be the most rewarding career one could choose.
