Sandra Joanne Hammer of Listowel - Age 71
1953-05-28 - 2025-01-11

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sandra Joanne Hammer (nee Nelson), who peacefully left us in her 71 st year. Born on May 28, 1953, in Newmarket, Ontario, Sandra’s life was a beautiful testament to love, family, and devotion.

On November 5, 1971, Sandra married the love of her life, Ron Hammer, and together they built a partnership filled with unwavering support, laughter, and love. Their 53 years of marriage were a shining example of a life well-lived together in Listowel, Ontario.

Sandra is survived by her beloved husband, Ron, her cherished son, Trevor Edward Hammer, and his caring wife, Laura. Sandra was the proud and loving grandmother of Sarah and Nathan Hammer. Her joy multiplied with Nathan’s marriage to Danielle Hammer (Michaud) and the arrival of their infant son, Theodore Edward Hammer, Sandra’s first great-grandchild, whom she had the privilege of meeting just weeks before her passing.

Sandra is also survived by her caring brother, Graham Nelson, his wife Karen, and their children, Melissa, Christopher, Lee, and Drew, along with their families. She will also be dearly missed by her sister-in-law Barbara, her husband Jim, and Barbara’s children, Lisa, Steven, and Kevin, and their families. Sandra was predeceased by her father, Harold Nelson (1972), and her mother, Ivy Nelson (Taylor) (1987).

Sandra’s life was filled with family-centered adventures. Her greatest joy as being “Granna”, a title she wore with pride. She and Ron created countless memories with their grandchildren at Bayhaven Camp in Stokes Bay, on the shores of Lake Huron. There, Nathan and Sarah spent magical weekends and summer vacations swimming, fishing, hiking, and playing under the loving watch of their grandparents, known fondly as “Granna and Boppa”.

Sandra’s own childhood was rich with memories of summers in Southampton where she roller-skated, bowled, and enjoyed the sunsets on the beach. Later in life, she and Ron shared a love of gardening, taking pride in the care and beauty of their yard and gardens.

Sandra’s creative spirit and love of family extended to her passion for knitting. She spent countless hours crafting beautiful, comforting “Granna Blankies” for every member of her family. Each stitch carried her love, and each blanket became a treasured symbol of her warmth and care. Even now, her family finds comfort each night as they snuggle in the warmth of her skill and passion. Together, Sandra and Ron were pillars of support for their family, always present at sporting events, community gatherings, and milestones. Known as “super fans”, Sandra and Ron became familiar faces on the sidelines, cheering on their grandchildren with unmatched pride and joy. Sandra’s love for her family was boundless, and her pride in being a Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma was evident to all who knew her.

Sandra’s warmth, kindness, and dedication to her loved ones will be deeply missed but forever cherished. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored and who adored her in return.
