Robert Zister

Robert “Bob” Zister, cherished family man and dedicated sports enthusiast passed away, surrounded by family, on July 12, 2024, at the age of 87. His life was marked by extraordinary achievements in sports, was a respected businessman in the community and known for his dedication and integrity.

Born in Hanover, Ontario, in 1937, Bob’s passion for sports was ignited early in life. His athletic prowess was highlighted when he was selected to Team Ontario and earned a gold medal at the Canada Summer Games in 1969 as an integral member of the baseball team; a moment of immense pride for him and his community. Bob’s leadership extended beyond the field; he served as President of both the Listowel Cyclones Junior Hockey Club and the Listowel Golf and Country Club, playing a pivotal role in their development and success.

Bob was also an accomplished curler, contributing to numerous successful teams throughout his career. His competitive spirit and sportsmanship endeared him to teammates and competitors alike.

Bob’s greatest joy was his family, giving him immeasurable happiness and pride. He was a loving husband of 60 years to wife Glenna, a devoted father to son Pete and daughter Jackie (husband Bill Strub) and a proud grandfather to Tyler (wife Sarah) and 4 great grandchildren Jayden, Blake, Max, and Hudson. Bob’s nephew John Kalbfleisch (wife Jane), was also a cherished member of his extended family.

Bob Zister will be remembered for his remarkable accomplishments in sports, his honour, his goodness as a man, his friendship and his unwavering commitment and love for his family.

A casual come and go “Celebration of Life” for Bob will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at the Listowel Golf Club, from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm.
