Al Kiers, of Elmira, Ontario (formerly of Moorefield and Listowel) passed away peacefully in Kitchener on January 24, 2019 in his 89th year.
Beloved husband of Jean (Katerberg) Kiers for 64 years.
Dear father of Bernita and Larry Scarlett, Wendy and John Dugal, Mike Boyle, Brian Kiers and Tami Prince, Charlie and Lesley Kiers, Jeff Kiers, and Chris and Erin Kiers.
Loving grandfather of Adam Kiers and Becca McFarlane, Angela Scarlett and Robert Murray, Ashley Scarlett and Corey Frank, Ryan Dugal and Claryssa Webb, Hayley Dugal and Chad Norwood, Dustin Dugal and Rachel Norris, Joshua Kiers, Sarah Boyle and Jeff Sabatini, Carter Kiers, Emma Kiers, Gavin Kiers, Morgan Minnick, Olivia Minnick, and 10 beautiful innocent great-grandchildren.
Brother of Henk and Jitske Kiers, Aaltje and Albert Kersssies, Ans Kiers, Hendrikus and Anneke Kiers, and Jantje Reinders.
Predeceased by his son Henry Kiers (2009), daughter Jacquie Boyle (2013), grandson Alexander Boyle (in infancy), brothers Derk, Kars, Hendrik, and Albert Jan Kiers, and sister, Tryntje Visser.
Al was the oldest Kiers that ever lived as far as he knew. Possibly descended from Vikings. Possibly a little bit Scottish. But absolutely Dutch. Een echte Drentenaar and a proud Canadian.
He kept his father safe during the Second World War and he made his mother proud.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 1 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Listowel Community Family Funeral Home, 8372 Fairlane Road, Listowel, Ontario.
Family and friends will celebrate Al’s life on Saturday, February 2 at 11:00 AM at the Moorefield Community Centre with lunch at 12:00 PM.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to The Kidney Foundation, 1599 Hurontario St., Suite 201, Mississauga, ON L5G 4S1 would be appreciated by the family.

Family and friends will celebrate Al’s life on Saturday February 2nd 2019, at 11:00 AM at the Moorefield Community Centre in Moorefield with luncheon to follow.
